Alberta CE Requirements & Deadlines

As of July 1st, 2014, General Insurance Agents and Adjusters in Alberta need 15 hours of CE credits between July 1st and the next June 30th (the licensing period).  You will not be able to renew your license if you have not completed the required 15 hours of training.  You can check how many hours you currently have by logging into your AIC account and checking your “CE Summary Report”.

For newly licensed agents, you need to get 1.25 hours for each licensed month.  If you got your certificate of authority (license) with 3 or less months left in the certificate term, you are exempt from the Alberta Insurance Council Continuing Education requirements for that term.  But you will need your full credits next year.

You can carry forward up to 7.5 hours of credits to the next year and must keep records of your CE certificates for a period of at least 3 years as the Alberta Insurance Council can do random audits.  Luckily, if you took your CE courses with PNC Learning, keeping records is easy.  Your certificates are emailed to you automatically and you can view them online as well.
