How to Register for the BC INSURANCE Exam

Step 1: Select your proctor

Choosing the right exam proctor is a critical step to ensure a secure and fair testing environment. Your proctor will oversee the exam process, verify your identity, and maintain the integrity of the test. Be sure to select someone who meets the proctor eligibility set by your testing organization.

Proctor Eligibility:

  • Level 3 License Holders (at your brokerage office)
  • Government Exam Center (this option is only available in remote areas)
  • Education Professionals (from accredited colleges/universities)
  • IBABC Office (if you live in Vancouver, you have the option to write at the IBABC office)
  • Online Proctor (you can also choose a virtual proctor when filling out the proctor portion of the exam registration)

More info on proctor selection & eligibility are available here.

Step 2: Register and Pass the Insurance Exam

You must complete the process at least three (3) business days before your chosen exam date. Once your payment is processed, you will receive an examination candidate code via email, which is required to log in and begin your exam on the scheduled day. Please note that your exam application will not be approved unless both Steps 1 and 2 are completed correctly and on time.

Writing the Insurance Exam in BC

Exams are offered only on the computer – whether you write it in-person somewhere or proctored virtually. The insurance exam schedule varies depending on who is proctoring your exam. The virtual proctor will have the most flexibility seconded by the brokerage option as you can always coordinate with your manager on preferred exam times.

If you choose to write at the IBABC office, exam hours are more limited:

  • Tuesday: 1pm – 330pm
  • Wednesday: 9am – 11:30am

Pro Exam Tip: Computer-based exams are convenient, but you cannot revisit and revise your answers for the completed sections. You should be allowed to bring a piece of paper into the exam with you – use that to note down the key parts of any question you’re struggling with.

Pro Exam Tip: If you are using a virtual proctor, make sure you test out the system/technology before-hand. They can be really strict about having papers and things sitting around your room so make sure you clear your exam room beforehand.
