To create this week’s post, I spoke with some of our most successful students to get their insights on how they prepared for their insurance exams. I compiled their advice into a list of best practices. Here are their top 5 tips to help you succeed on your exam.
Insurance Exam Prep Tip #1: Make Your Own Notes
One student shared, “Even though the online insurance course comes with great notes and lectures, making your own notes really pays off.”
Creating your own notes is helpful because it forces you to put the ideas into your own words. This not only deepens your understanding of the material but also makes it easier to remember. If you’re struggling with certain concepts or having trouble remembering key details, try writing them down in your own style. The act of handwriting and repetition will improve your memory and understanding.
Tip #2: Ask Your Course Tutor
Another student said, “If you’re stuck on a concept, try re-reading the notes or watching the lecture again. I’ve found that if I don’t understand something, it’s usually because I missed something in the materials. I also like to use Google to clarify things, but if that doesn’t work, I’ll ask for help.”
When you’re confused about a topic, try to solve it on your own first. Re-read your course materials or look up the topic online. Working through problems or scenarios can also help you grasp difficult concepts. Often, the struggle to find the answer makes it easier to remember later.
But if you’re still stuck after trying on your own, don’t hesitate to reach out to your course tutor through live chat, email support, or any available check-in forms. While it’s important not to rely too much on your tutor, they’re there to help when needed.
Tip #3: Focus on Understanding, Not Just Memorizing
While there are some things you need to memorize for the exam, understanding the concepts should come first. Here’s why:
- Many exams, including insurance exams, provide you with certain reference materials, like policy booklets, so you don’t need to memorize all the details.
- The exam will likely test your ability to apply concepts in real-world scenarios. Memorizing alone won’t help you answer these types of questions. Understanding how the concepts work in practice is key to solving scenario-based problems.
