ACCREDITED CONTINUING EDUCATION & ONLINE INSURANCE COURSES FOR FUNDAMENTALS OF INSURANCE, CAIB*, RIBO**, ALBERTA GIL & OTHERS

April 20, 2024

Attention insurance professionals in British Columbia! The qualification process for Level 3 adjuster and general insurance licenses has been updated, taking effect April 1, 2024.

Leadership No Longer Required for Level 3 Licenses:

Previously, holding a management or ownership role was a prerequisite for a Level 3 license. Now, qualification is based solely on your education and experience. This means even if you’re not in a leadership position, you can still qualify for a Level 3 license as long as you meet the requirements.

Individual Licenses, Not Employer-Based:

Say goodbye to the confusion of having multiple license levels based on the companies you represent (ATR). Moving forward, your license level will be tied directly to your qualifications, not your employer. So, if you qualify for a Level 3 license, you can simply apply for it regardless of your current role.

No Changes for Existing Level 2 & 3 Holders:

If you already have both Level 2 and Level 3 ATRs, don’t worry! You can continue practicing under your current licenses without any change. You’ll receive an email about how your online ATR information will be updated to reflect this new system.

Streamlined Upgrade Process:

Exciting news for those seeking to upgrade their licenses! The process is getting easier and more efficient. Starting April 1st, you can apply and track your upgrade application through a user-friendly online portal on the Insurance Council website. This streamlined workflow will guide you through a clearer application process. There will be a fee associated with submitting an upgrade application.

Benefits of Harmonization:

These changes bring British Columbia in line with other Canadian provinces like Alberta, Manitoba, Quebec, and New Brunswick. This “harmonization” simplifies licensing procedures across provinces, making it easier for insurance professionals to work across borders.

We hope this blog post clarifies the upcoming changes to adjuster license qualifications and upgrades in British Columbia. Stay tuned for further updates!
