If you want to sell life and health insurance in Ontario, you’ll need to get your LLQP license in Ontario. If you move to another province, you can transfer your license easily because standards are the same across Canada. It’s called the Harmonized Life License Qualification Program for a reason!
Step 1 – Complete a Course and Get Certified by an Approved LLQP Course Provider
Before you can take the provincial LLQP exams, you need to get certified by a CISRO-approved course provider. Different institutions will have their own requirements but most commonly, that involves completing a course and passing a small pre-qualification exam administered online by the course provider.
Step 2 – Register for and Pass the Provincial LLQP Exam Modules
After you receive your CIPR certification from your course provider, the next step is to register for the provincial exam. The LLQP exam registration process varies from province to province but we provide students with detailed exam registration information inside the course.
Step 3 – Apply for Your LLQP License in Ontario
Congratulations on passing the exam modules! The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario is the body responsible for administering the LLQP license and program. You will be completing your registration with them.
First, you want to review the licensing FAQ to make sure you meet all the criteria for licensing as a life or accident and sickness agent.
Next, you can start applying for work at an insurance company. They will act as your “sponsor” and even help you complete the rest of the LLQP licensing paperwork for Ontario.
