We recently released some materials that help students with their RIBO 2 (Unrestricted Technical) exam.  I get a lot of questions about this so I figured it would be good to write a short post about the exam.  In this post, we will talk about: how the exam is formatted, what the time limit on the exam is, the grades you need to pass the exam, and a brief outline of the topics covered.

What is the RIBO 2 (Unrestricted Technical) Exam?

With the RIBO 1 license, you are restricted to “Acting Under Supervision”.  If you want to work unsupervised, you need to get your “Unrestricted” license.  You can do this by passing the RIBO 2 (Unrestricted Technical) examination with RIBO.

About the RIBO 2 (Unrestricted Technical) Exam

Time Limit

You have 3 hours to complete the exam

Passing Grade Required

You need a minimum of 60% on each of the 3 parts and an overall score of at least 75%.  If you fail any of the parts, you will fail the entire exam and need to rewrite all 3 sections.

Format/Parts

The exam is made up of 3 main parts: Insurance Concepts, Case Studies & Forms Recognition.

  • Insurance Concepts: this part is 20 multiple choice questions and makes up 20% of your mark.
  • Case Study: this part is made up of short answer questions worth 60% of your total mark
  • Forms Recognition: this final section is made up of short answer questions worth 20% of your total mark.

Remember, you must score at least 60% on each of these 3 sections.

Eligibility

To write this exam you need 2 things:

  1. An active RIBO 1 license
  2. 2 years experience working as a broker

[April 30, 2024 UPDATE: Starting April 1, 2023, level 1 licensees are classified as brokers holding Entry Level Broker or Level 1 competency (previously Acting Under Supervision and Acting Under Supervision (No A&S or Travel or Including Travel, No A&S)).]
